ID#10638 • Chris Glennon of the Bellows Falls Historical Society will give a presentation at Rockingham Library on The Power of Water, Part II specifically focusing on the period from 1850 – 1900. During this time, a new mode of transportation, the railroad, was coming to Bellows Fall. The engineering blueprints for the railroad tunnel had been drawn up. The idea of Bellows Falls becoming an important railroad hub was taking off. In addition, the presence of the canal, an inexpensive water power source, the lumber and paper industries (existent and coming), and Bellows Falls’ “Under the Hill” location prompted an industry explosion. And behind this growth lies the powerful enchantress – the Connecticut River, the draw of water with all her charms for opportunity for the adventurous. An exhibit about the former mills of Bellows Falls will be on display as well.
