Freelancer Pay Rates and Responsibilities

At Falls Area Community Television (FACT TV), we work with independent contractors (freelancers) to provide video production and broadcasting services. Pay rates vary based on experience, type of work, and equipment used. The following guidelines outline the standard rates and expectations.

Please note: As an independent contractor, you are responsible for all costs associated with performing your work, including transportation, equipment maintenance, liability insurance (if applicable), and taxes. FACT TV does not pay for training time. However, we do offer free training on our equipment and production methods if you wish to prepare for assignments.

In order to receive work assignments, freelancers must have the necessary skills, experience, and training to complete the contracted tasks competently and independently.

Freelancer Pay Tiers

All freelancer work is paid as a flat fee based on the estimated project time, including travel time. Rates may be negotiable on a case-by-case basis, subject to the approval of the Executive Director. These guidelines are designed to set clear expectations for both parties.

1. Supervised Work

Flat Rate Calculated at $17/hour

Definition:
Work where FACT TV directly supervises and manages the production either on-site or remotely (via phone, text, or other communication). FACT TV provides all equipment and oversees coordination and final deliverables.

Example:
FACT TV manages the live broadcast of a football game. Freelancers are contracted to operate cameras under the direction of a FACT TV producer, using FACT TV equipment.

2. Unsupervised Work (Using FACT TV Equipment)

Flat Rate Calculated at $25/hour

Definition:
Work where freelancers are contracted to independently manage and complete an assignment without direct management from FACT TV. FACT TV will provide the necessary equipment, but freelancers are responsible for:
• Reserving equipment.
• Transporting equipment.
• Coordinating with clients or venues.
• Managing all aspects of production based on FACT TV’s provided guidelines.

Example:
FACT TV is contracted by a high school to film and live-stream a spring concert. You would be responsible for setting up a two-camera shoot (one wide shot, one close-up) according to guidelines, managing the livestream, and delivering the completed work without supervision.

3. Unsupervised Work (Using Your Own Equipment)

Flat Rate Calculated at $28/hour

Definition:
Same as “Unsupervised Work” above, except the freelancer uses their own equipment. No equipment or technical support will be provided by FACT TV.

Additional Notes

  • Rate Negotiations: While these rates represent FACT TV’s standard freelance fees, freelancers are welcome to propose alternative rates if they believe their experience, skills, or equipment provide exceptional value. All alternative rates must be approved by the Executive Director in writing.
  • Skill and Equipment Standards: Freelancers are expected to possess the skills, training, and, if applicable, equipment necessary to meet the requirements of each job without additional instruction unless specified otherwise in the contract.
